What is the Children’s Food Trust Learning Network?
The Learning Network is a website providing online training courses to help schools, nurseries, local authorities, caterers, health professionals and others to improve children’s food. It also contains webcasts highlighting topical issues around children’s food, such as changes to legislation or newsworthy stories. There is a forum to help learners and employers to share ideas, solutions and best practice.

Who is the Children’s Food Trust?
The Children’s Food Trust is a registered charity (number 1118995). It was formerly known as the School Food Trust, which was set up by the Government in 2005 to improve school food, following Jamie Olivers Feed Me Better campaign.
It is now an independent charity, working in all areas of children’s food – from early years, through primary and secondary schools, to teaching parents and children to cook at home.
The Children’s Food Trust developed the Governments nutritional standards for school food, as well as the voluntary food and drink guidelines for early years settings and has worked with thousands of schools to help them improve school food. Our Lets Get Cooking programme has helped more than 3 million people develop new cooking skills.
Who can join the Learning Network?
The Learning Network is open to anyone with an interest in children’s food. We think it will be of most interest to people working in schools, public health, nurseries and other early years settings. Most of our members are likely to be caterers, school cooks, lunchtime supervisors, headteachers, school business managers, nursery staff, child minders, health professionals or local authority staff.
How do I join?
To purchase a membership please click ‘create a new account’ on the right hand side of the home page and complete the form, this should only take you a couple of minutes. Once you’ve registered, click the ‘purchase Learning Network memberships’ box on the right hand side of the page. Add the number of memberships you’d like to buy (memberships are not transferable and discounts are automatically applied for bulk purchases), click on the shopping basket and then click ‘checkout’. This will take you to a new page where you can check your order and pay using a credit card or Purchase Order – please remember to have your Purchase Order number with you at time of purchase. If you’ve purchased more than one membership, you’ll receive an email explaining how to assign licence codes to your colleagues
Why should I join?
If you work in children’s food, then the Learning Network is the place to access training from the leading experts in children’s food and find out the latest information on topical issues. Its a great way to develop your career prospects, and access practical training without having to travel or take a day off work.

What kind of technology do I need?
You can access the Learning Network on your laptop, PC, Mac, tablet device or mobile phone. If you do not have access to a home computer, you could ask if you can use one at work, or in your local library.
How does elearning work?
Training is completed online using your computer or tablet device. It is in e-learning format, so you click through a series of screens, reading the information provided, then carrying out activities, such as creating an action plan and answering questions. At the end of each training course you will take an assessment, which comprises of 15 questions. If you pass the assessment, you will be sent a certificate of achievement, which you can use to demonstrate your professional development to your current or future employers.
What subjects are covered in the training?
The Learning Network has fifteen e-learning courses that will support you to ensure that every child has access to a healthy meal. The three early years courses have been endorsed by CACHE (Council for Care, Health and Education) and both cooking courses have been accredited by RSPH (Royal Society for Public Health). What subjects are covered in the webcasts?
The webcasts will cover topical and newsworthy issues around children’s food from the impact of the School Food Review, to the reintroduction of cooking on the curriculum and how changes to legislation, such as the introduction of universal credit, might impact eligibility for free school meals.

How much is it?
Individual membership is £108 for 12 months and there are discounts for corporate members buying multiple memberships, which start from as little as £32.40 each for a whole years worth of unlimited access to the training, webcasts and forum.

Can I get my employer to pay for membership?
Yes! We offer discounts for corporate members buying multiple licences, and they can pay by invoice (a purchase order is required) or credit/debit card.

Who is funding the Learning Network?
The Children’s Food Trust is also contributing to the costs of development and running costs. Your membership fees will help to ensure the Learning Network grows and new training courses are added in future.
How do I access training?
Purchase your membership by adding the quantity you require to the shopping basket and paying by credit/debit card or providing a valid company purchase order number and billing address. You will receive an email telling you how to activate your account.
Once you have done this, click on courses on the navigation button at the top of the page, choose the course you want to take. Click on the Click here to start button. This will take you to the course page where you can begin working through the modules.
How long is each course?
Courses range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, although some people may work through training at a faster or slower pace.
How many times can I take the assessment?
You can take the assessment as many times as you like.
Do I have to complete each course in one session?
It’s up to you! Each course is split into modules lasting around 5-10 minutes. You might prefer to put aside a couple of hours to complete a course in full, or complete a module at a time. Your progress is saved so you can pick up where you left off.
How do I request a future course or webcast subject?
Simply click on the request a course button on the Course Category page We would love to hear what subjects you would like us to cover in future.
Can I give feedback on the Learning Network?
Yes please! We value feedback from our members to help us improve. You can give feedback on each course by completing the evaluation form which appears when you complete a course. All feedback will help us to improve the site.
How do I get a copy of my certificates?
When you complete a course and pass the assessment, a certificate of achievement will be emailed to you. You can also download and print a certificate from the course page (the certificate link will appear when you have passed the course).
If you lose your certificates of achievement, you can download copies from the site at any time. They can be accessed via the My Course Progress section of the website and then by clicking on the course page.
Can I get a copy of my learning record?
A record of all your learning is kept on the site. You can view your record of learning in the My Course Progress section on the homepage.
Does my employer know what training or webcasts I have accessed?
If someone else has paid for your membership, they will be able to request a record of your learning. This will show which modules and courses you have started and completed and if you have passed the assessment and gained a certificate of achievement.
